これ、わりといいかもですよ。

PrintWarcraftは、World Of Warcraftのキャラクターでポスターを作ってくれるサービスだ。

もちろん自分のキャラクターをフィーチャーすることができる点がポイントだ。

自分が大事に育ててきたキャラだからこそ、こうしたポスターにして部屋に飾ればテンションもあがるだろう。

World of Warcraftに限らず、このアイデアは他のWebサービスなんかにも使えるのではないでしょうかね。

萌え美鯖　クライアント専用パッチ

ペン等の絵を自分で描きたい。

そんなときに参考になるのが、『How to Create a Realistic Fountain Pen』。リアルな万年筆を描くPhotoshopチュートリアルです。

かなり細かく解説されていますね。ぼかし（ガウス）やぼかし（移動）、選択範囲の拡張・縮小やグラデーション、シャドウ（内側）などのディテールまで、一通りやってみると別のものを作る時にも参考になるかと思います。

原文には書かれていませんが、「ビュー / 表示 / グリッド」（command + @）でグリッドを表示しながらやると、ペンツールで作業しやすいですね。

Google Blogによると、WWWで利用されている文字コードのうちUTF-8が占める割合が50％に近づいたそうだ。

UTF-8の利用は2006年あたりから急激に増加しており、一方でUS-ASCIIやW.Eu.（ISO/IEC 8859-1/Windows 1252のことだと思われる）の割合が減少してる。日本語（SJIS等）についてはもともと10％以下しか無かったが、こちらもUTF-8への以降が進んでいるようだ。

かつては「文字化け」で（ブラウザの設定を変えないと）見られないサイトもよく見られたが、現在では確かにこのようなサイトは少なくなってきた。/.J読者の皆様の関わっているサイトはUTF-8対応しているだろうか?

モックアップを作成したい。

そんなときに使えそうなのが、『MockFlow』。モックアップ作成AIRアプリです。

元々Webサービスでモックアップ / ワイヤーフレームを作成・共有できたMockFlowですが、そのAIRアプリが出たようですね。Web版と連携しているようです。

UIが洗練されていて、使っていて気持ちいいですね。コンポーネントも充実していて、imageやBanner、Button、Pagination、Textなど、ドラッグして配置することでモックアップを作成できます。

AIRアプリのUI。なかなかいい感じ。

ドラッグしたコンポーネントをダブルクリックすると、値や色を変更できたり、deleteキーで削除できたりと使いやすいですね。

ただ日本語が使用できないのが難点。アルファベットしか打てないようになっています。

一度見てみてください。

Color Theory for Designers, Part 1: The Meaning of Color

When we talk about tabs on web we usually think about tabs used for navigation. However, in this case we want to use them for showing different entities on the same page. We will try to simulate tabs as seen in browsers. Take Google docs for example, instead of opening each document in a new window (or browser tab), you could open them in page tabs.

Janko has written a throughout tutorial that shows you How to Use jQuery to Create Dynamic Tabs that can be added and removed dynamically. He has also mentioned how to use tabs and in which context should they be used in order to make them meaningful and usable.

最近Ubuntuを使い初めて、使いやすさに非常に満足しているのだが、PowerPointファイルを作らないといけなくなった。OpenOffice.orgは入っているのだが、何年か前にWindows版のOpenOffice.orgを利用したときはMS Officeとの互換性はあるものの再現度は高くなく、MS Officeファイルを作成するソフトとしては不向きである印象を受けた。

今のUbuntuに入っているOpenOffice.orgでいくつかMS Officeのファイルを開いたり編集したりしてみたところ、以前より再現度が高くなっているようには感じるが、まだ若干の不安が残る。

なので、OpenOffice.orgでMS Officeドキュメントを作成している/.Jerがいらっしゃったら「これは互換性が低いから使わない方がいい」、「こういう風にすれば、うまくできる」などのコツを伝授していただきたい。

前回は、whois情報を利用してGoogleのAS番号を取得する方法を説明しました。
次は、それを使って、GoogleのAS間接続地図を作ってみます。

まず、最初に前回のおさらいです。whoisを利用して得られたのは、以下のAS情報です。

で、次はこれらのASがどこと繋がっているのかを調べるためにUCLA Cyclopsに各AS番号を入れてみます。
利用するのは、「Global Visibility > AS Connectivity」です。
ASの接続状況がここでわかります。

ここであらわれる入力フォームの「ASN or AS name」に15169などのAS番号を入れていきます。
すると、多くのレコードがあるのがAS15169であることがわかります。
ここでは、AS15169に注目して調べてみようと思います。

出て来る結果が非常に多いので、ちょっと最初は図を作成するのは難しいかも知れませんが「どこと繋がっているのだろう？」というのを知るのは面白いです。

■BGPフルルートを使って調べる

Cyclopsで出て来るBGP peering情報だけである程度の図は書けますが、何となくそれでは物足りなかったので、オレゴン大学が公開しているBGPフルルート情報を使ってみました。

「Route Views Project」

RouteViewsで公開されている情報を見て行くと、実はGoogleの主要ASであるAS15169はトランジットを提供していることがわかりました。
AS15169がトランジットを提供しているのは、YouTube、DoubleClick、Postini、Google-IT、GOOGLE-CORP-APAC-AS-APでした。

YouTube、DoubleClick、PostiniはGoogleが買収した企業です。 Google-ITが何であるかは良くわかりませんでしたが、AS15169としか接続されていないスタブで冗長化されて無さそうなところを見ると、恐らく内部利用で一般公開されていないネットワークではないかと推測してみました。 GOOGLE-CORP-APAC-AS-APは「AS number for Google Corporate Network in APAC」とあるので、アジア太平洋地域にあるネットワークであると推測できます。

AS15169がトランジットを提供しているのは全てGoogle関連企業なので、組織全体という視点で見るとGoogle全体はスタブ的ではありますが、最初にこれを発見したときには個人的に非常に面白いと思いました。

■経路を図にしてみる

さて、では、ここまでの情報をもとに、実際にPowerPointで図を描いてみました。

最終的に出来上がった図が以下のものです。
接続数が非常に多いので、特徴がある部分だけを個別表示してあります。

この図では、GoogleとGoogleが買収した企業によるASは赤で表現し、それ以外は青で表現しています。

「インターネットはBGPでAS同士が繋がっている」と言われてもあまりピンとこないと思いますが、このように調べて図を作ることを行うと何となく理解しやすくなると思います。
今回はGoogleでしたが、たとえばFacebookやAmazonなども調べてみると面白いのではないでしょうか。

■最後に

ここ数回はASという大きい単位で「インターネット」の構成を眺めてきましたが、今度は逆に手元のネットワークを調べてみる方向に戻ってみたいと思います。
次回は、特定の宛先まで到達可能かどうかのチェックを行うpingコマンドの紹介を行う予定です。

APNIC（Asia Pacific Network Information Centre）にアドレスブロックが2つ割当てられ、未割当てのアドレスブロックが全体の1割を切ったそうだ（本家記事、CNET Japan、INTERNET Watch）。

この度割当てられたアドレスブロックは1.0.0.0/8 および 27.0.0.0/8。未割当てのアドレスブロックのうち、より使用に適したものはアフリカやラテンアメリカ地域のために優先的に残すとのICANNの判断によってこれらのブロックが割当てられたとのこと。

現在のペースで割当てが続けばIPV4アドレスは2011年後半には枯渇するとみられている。世界５つのインターネット・レジストリを代表する機関であるNRO（Number Resource Organization）の会長を務めるAxel Pawlik氏曰く、これは「インターネットのグローバルな成長と発展の重要なマイルストーン」であるとし、世界的にIPv4枯渇を広報しIPv6への移行を促進するキャンペーンを行っていくとした。

家や職場、携帯などの電話番号を一つの電話番号で集約管理できる「Google Voice」がWebアプリケーションとしてお目見えしたそうだ（本家/.、CNET Japan、INTERNET Watch）。

Google VoiceはAndroid携帯やBlackberryにはアプリケーションとして提供されている。iPhoneへの展開も目指しAppStoreに申請していたが、機能の重複を理由に却下されていた（/.J過去記事）。一時は米連邦通信委員会による調査が入るなど話が大きくなったが、その後特段の進展はなく、アプリケーションはAppleによる「審査中」であるとして保留となっていたという。

米Googleは現地時間26日、このアプリケーションのWebアプリケーション版をリリース、今後はiPhone OS 3.0以上やPalm WebOSなどでも利用できるようになったとのこと。WebアプリケーションはAppCacheなどHTML5の新機能を利用しており、オフライン時も使うことができるという。

Google Voiceは米国のみで展開している招待制のサービスであるが、ユーザ登録があればすぐにでも利用できるとのことだ。

紙の地図なのにズーム可能？とはこれいかに？と思ったらなるほどね、という感じだったのでご紹介。

The Zoomable Mapはポケットサイズの紙の地図だが、中央から広げることができる（上の図を参照）。

気になるエリアがあったらその部分を広げてみれば拡大版がみれる、という仕組みだ。

全体像を把握しつつも、一部だけ詳しくみたい、というときに便利ですな。

先日Wide ProectのIRC-WGがIRCnet(JP)から撤退するとの正式発表があったばかりだが、捨てる神あれば拾う神あり。livedoorがIPv4/IPv6でのサーバ提供を始めてくれるようです。irc*.wide.ad.jp の廃止に伴うキャパシティ不足を大幅に緩和してくれる事に期待しましょう。

なお、IRCnet(JP)の事を「wideのIRC」と誤解している方も多い様ですので念のため言及しますが、今回の件はwideという総体としての撤退であり、各ノードの撤去という意味ではありません。

当然ですがwide.ad.jpではないノードについては直接関係ありません。wide.ad.jpのものは一部ノードについては撤去されるでしょうが別のFQDNで引き続き稼働する物もあります。IRCnet(JP)から慌てて逃げ出す必要はありません。どうか落ち着いて引っ越し先を探してください:)

■2009年を振り返ってみる

みなさんの2009年はどうでしたか？私は公私ともどもに大きな動きがありまして、プライベートでは結婚、ビジネスでは独立と大きな転機に立たされた年でもありました。

さて、そんな2009年のビッグニュースといえば何でしょうか？個人的には、Twitterがついに日本でも流行の兆しを見せたことこそ2009年のビッグニュースであったように思えています。この新しくて面白いメディアツールを使いこなすことは、皆さんの今後の人生を一変させてしまう可能性も秘めているでしょう。

そこで今回は、Twitterのようなリアルタイム性や俗人性の高い、新しいメディアに対する立ち振る舞いを考えてみたいと思います。

■個人がリアルタイムに報道を行えるツールが出揃った

2009年は個人ジャーナリズムが新しい展開を迎えた年であったように思えます。その最たる例が、どこへでもストリーミングカメラをもって出かけ、Ustream（個人向けのストリーミング配信サイト）とTwitterで様々なイベントを生中継してくれた@ksoranoこと「そらの」さんでしょう。今までネット上で何の活動もしたことがなかった彼女が、ストリーミングという武器を得て様々なイベントに突撃し、ついには閉ざされていた政治の現場までをも中継してしまったときには、ああ新しい時代がきた…と痛感したものです。

■ネットの格差が広まった年とも言えそうです

一方で、いわゆるデジタルデバイドと呼ばれるネットを使いこなせないことによる機会損失のケースも急増してしまったように思えます。というのも、Twitterのようなリアルタイム性の高いツールでは、どれだけの時間アクセスし、一方でいかに短時間で効率的に使いこなすかが鍵となっていて、既存の静的なメディアに慣れている人たちには対応が難しいと考えられるからです。その最たる例が産経新聞のケースでしょう。新聞社の政治部に所属する有能な人間であってもTwitterというツールの特性を理解できず、大きな批判を生む問題発言・行動をしてしまいました。

このことからも、インターネットのツールを使いこなすために必要とされるレベルが引き上げられた年である、とも言えるかも知れません。

■これから求められるもの

では、これら新しい時代のツールにどう対処していけば良いのでしょうか？まず最も必要なものが、情報の取捨選択力です。Twitterをはじめとしたツールからは次々と新しい情報が流れ込んでくるため、その全てを消化していてはとても仕事にならないでしょう。自分にとって重要な情報を見極め、捕捉する能力が今以上に必要となってきそうです。

さらに必要とされるのが、コミュニケーション能力です。といっても人と言葉のキャッチボールをする能力ではなく、自身の発言がどのような反応を巻き起こすか想像する力といったほうが正しいかもしれません。一瞬にして情報が拡散するツールを使いこなす上では、失言をしてしまった際の影響も大きくなっていることに注意しなければなりません。また多種多様な考えを持った人間が自分の発言を見ていると強く意識することも重要となりそうです。

もちろん失敗を恐れる余り、積極的に参加できないのも困りものです。俗人性が高いということは、自身の魅力を多くの人に知らせるチャンスでもあります。であれば多少の失敗はあるものと腹をくくって飛び込み、失敗からのリカバリーも経験として受け止めるくらいの気持ちで挑戦するのが良いかもしれませんね。皆さんの2010年が自身を羽ばたかせるよい年になることをお祈りします。
